4160                       Beginning Band (freshman)*

This course is based on the Indiana Academic Standards for High School Instrumental Music. Student  taking this course are provided with a balanced comprehensive study of music through the concert band, which develops skills in the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains. Ensemble andsolo activities are designed to develop elements of musicianship including tone production, technical skills,intonation, music reading skills, listening skills, analyzing music, studying historically significant styles of literature, and integration of other applicable disciplines. Experiences include improvising,conducting,playing by ear, and sight reading. Students develop the ability to understand and convey the composer'sintent in performance of music. Time outside of the school day may be scheduled for rehearsals andperformances. A limited number of public performances may serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and musical goals. Students are required to participate in performance opportunities outside of the school day that support and extend learning in the classroom. Attendance at rehearsals, concerts, and performances ARE MANDATORY requirements of this course.  Students must take band the entire school year unless asevere hardship is presented whereby the band director and principal must both agree that the course can be dropped.

4170                       Intermediate Concert Band (grades 10-12) *

This course will provide music education through rehearsal and performance.  Emphasis is on musicianship and music literacy.  Students can enter only by audition or 8th grade band.  Music styles include: concert band, marching band, pep band, solo and ensemble.  Marching band requires extra effort for rehearsals and performances.  Attendance at rehearsals, concerts, and performances ARE MANDATORY requirements of this course.  Students must take band the entire school year unless a severe hardship is presented whereby the band director and principal must both agree that the course can be dropped.

4182                       Beginning Chorus – Girl’s Ensemble *

The girl’s ensemble consists of only Treble voices.  All other rules are the same as for mixed choir.

4186                       Intermediate Chorus – Mixed Choir *

This course is based on the Indiana Academic Standards for High School Choral Music. Students taking Intermediate Chorus develop musicianship and specific performance skills through ensemble and solo singing. This class includes the study of quality repertoire in the diverse styles of choral literature appropriate in difficulty and range for the students. Chorus classes provide opportunities for performing, creating, and responding to music. Students develop the ability to understand and convey the composer's intent in performance of music. Time outside of the school day may be scheduled for rehearsals and performances. A limited number of public performances may serve as a culmination of daily rehearsal and musical goals. Students are required to participate in performance opportunities outside of the school day that support and extend learning in the classroom.

4188                       Advanced Chorus *

The mixed choir consists of male and female voices.  They perform a wide variety of music, including classical, sacred, and pop.  This is a performance course.  Five or six performances ARE REQUIRED per year: Raider Review, R.I.A.L., Christmas concert, spring concert, ISSMA contests and graduation.  Optional activities include solo and ensemble contest, All-State Choir and the annual musical.  Students are admitted to this class by audition only.  Students must be team players, willing to work hard, and willing to do their personal best.  All students must participate in fundraising for (or) purchase a choir outfit.
