The Dubois County Museum: How Indiana’s largest county museum is embracing diversity through humanities programming

The Dubois County Museum in Indiana, supported by Indiana Humanities, has created inclusive and culturally relevant programs and exhibits, including a recent project celebrating the growing Latino population, to bring diverse communities together and foster connections through the humanities.

Rossina Sandoval: Bridgebuilder honored as 2022 Athenian

Rossina Sandoval won the tenth Athena Award for her work in building bridges between cultures and promoting education equity and cultural competency in Dubois County. In her acceptance speech, she expressed her gratitude and shared her vision for a community that supports minority communities and their access to wellness and education.

Op-Ed: Abriendo Caminos (Opening pathways)

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Rossina Sandoval Monsivias and Bonifacio Aleman explore the barriers to education and healthcare access faced by Hispanic communities in Huntingburg and Holland, Indiana. They discuss initiatives such as the Café en el Parque community meeting and the LifeSpring mobile health unit, which provide bilingual services and medical care to anyone regardless of their immigration status or ability to pay.

IU and Dubois County partnering on Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative

Indiana University and Dubois County partner to expand community development through the Sustaining Hoosier Communities initiative, providing resources for projects ranging from health to infrastructure planning. Dubois County has worked with the Center for Rural Engagement on several projects since 2018, and this partnership offers expert counsel to help the community achieve its goals.
