The Data and Assessment Team in the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation provides accurate data and supports schools and the district in order to improve student achievement. Our work includes administering pre-determined state and district assessments; monitoring student progress; providing timely and accurate information to parents, teachers, students and the community at large; and serving as liaisons between schools and outside agencies that request information from the school district.

District and statewide assessments are given during pre-determined windows throughout the school year to monitor student progress. These assessments help ensure all of our students receive a quality education by evaluating data and providing families valuable information about how well their child is doing and where additional assistance might be necessary.

State Mandated Assessments

EARLY LITERACY ASSESSMENTS

Grades K-2

Timing: Fall, Winter & Spring

The Early Literacy Assessments are a series of assessments that measure foundational reading skills, determine instructional needs, and identify lagging skills in reading, including characteristics exhibited by dyslexia. These assessments satisfy the requirements dictated by the Indiana Senate Enrolled Act 217.

SWDCS Data

Our school system uses Orton Gillingham intervention and resources to support our students who need extra help.
Southwest Dubois County School Corporation has 32 students that received Dyslexia interventions during the 2022-2023 school year.
No students have been officially diagnosed.

I AM (Indiana's Alternate Measure)
Grades 3-8 & 10	Timing: Spring
The I AM assessment is the state accountability assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities. The assessment measures student achievement and growth in English/Language Arts, grades 3-8 and 10; Math, grades 3-8 and 10; Science, grades 4,6, and Biology; and Social Studies, grade 5. The measures are based on the Indiana Content Connectors, which are aligned to the Indiana Academic Standards.

ILEARN (Indiana Learning Evaluation Assessment Readiness Network)
Grades 3-8 & Biology	Timing: Spring
ILEARN is a state accountability assessments for students in Indiana. This assessment measures student achievement and growth in English/Language Arts, grades 3-8; Math, grades 3-8; Science, grades 4, 6, and Biology; and Social Studies, grade 5. The measures are based on the Indiana Academic Standards.

IREAD-3 (Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination)
Grade 3	Timing: Spring
IREAD-3 is a state assessment that measures foundational reading skills. This assessment satisfies the requirements dictated by the Indiana House Enrolled Act 1367.

PSAT
Grades 8-11	Timing: Fall
The PSAT is a state-mandated exam for grade 11; however, SWDCS also administers the test to grades 8-10. This test measures a student's college and career readiness based on their performance in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing as well as Math. The results are used to determine instructional needs for improved student achievement and growth.

SAT
Grade 11	Timing: Spring
The SAT is not only a college entrance exam used by many colleges and university but it is also the new high school state accountability assessment. This test measures a student's college and career readiness based on their performance in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, Math, and Writing (writing is optional). The SAT, as a state accountability assessment, will be administered to the juniors beginning with the class of 2023.

WIDA ACCESS
Grades K-12, English Language Learner students	Timing: Winter
WIDA ACCESS is a state assessment that measures a student's current level of English proficiency. This assessment is also used for accountability purposes regarding English Learner student achievement and growth.

ILEARN Checkpoints - Math
Grades 3-8	Timing: Fall, Winter, & Spring
SWDubois participates in state-required ILEARN Checkpoints, which provides interim assessments that are administered three times a year to determine what students know and what they are ready to learn. The math tests measure students' grade level math skills and identify student needs to improve their math skills.

ILEARN Checkpoints - ELA
Grades 3-8	Timing: Fall, Winter, & Spring
SWDubois participates in state-required ILEARN Checkpoints, which provides interim assessments that are administered three times a year to determine what students know and what they are ready to learn. The reading tests measure students' reading levels and identify reading needs.

High School Assessments

ADVANCED PLACEMENT
AP Enrolled Students	Timing: Spring
Advanced Placement (AP) exams are administered to students enrolled in advanced placement courses. The exams measure how well a student has mastered the content or skills specific to the AP course. These exams also provide students the opportunity to test out of similar introductory courses in college.

ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)
Grades 11 & 12 (Optional)	Timing: Winter & Spring
The ASVAB measures a student's strengths and weaknesses in four domains: verbal, math, science and technical, and spatial. This test can also be used as a graduation requirement for specific graduation pathways.

DIBELS

Grades K-2

Timing: Fall, Winter, & Spring

SWDCS has adopted DIBELS, which provides interim assessments that are administered three times a year to determine what students know and what they are ready to learn. The tests measure students' skills related to reading outcomes and individual student development.

STAMP
DLI - Grades 2 & 5
SWDCS has adopted STAMP (Standards-based Measurement of Proficiency), which is is a language assessment used to improve language-learning outcomes, support excellence in language programs, and enable language credentialing.

Reading and Writing Curricula

Pursuant to IC 20-26-5-44.2 not later than July 15 of each year, each school corporation and charter school shall report on the school corporation's or charter school's website the following:

The name and publisher of the school corporation's or charter school's adopted reading and writing curricula, listed by grade level.

Grades K-5: MyView Saavas
Grades K-2: M.A. Rooney Orton Gillingham
Grades K-5: Smekens Writing Framework

Information regarding remedial programs provided by the school corporation or charter school, including the grade levels for which the remedial programs are provided.

Tier II and Tier III Reading Interventions are provided during Learning Labs, a 30-minute protected period of time outside of core instruction. M.A. Rooney Orton Gillingham is provided to students in grades K-3. Readable English is used during interventions for students in grades 4-5.

Instruction on Human Sexuality

School Website Report; Instruction on Human Sexuality

Pursuant to Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 442, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, each state accredited school shall publish a list of materials used in connection with the instruction on the school's website:

Name/description of human sexuality course(s) that are taught.

Grade 8: CHAT (Choices Helping Abstinent Teens) - the course is taught over the course of eight class periods and includes a facilitated discussion of students’ dreams and goals, and their relationship to adolescent sexual behavior. Teens receive medically accurate, fact-based information about preventing pregnancy, STDs, and HIV infection; learn strategies for responding to peer and partner pressure; and practice refusal and negotiation skills.

We will be adding the following video to instruction in order to satisfy the requirement that the program include: “(A) A high definition ultrasound video, at least three (3) minutes in duration, showing the development of the brain, heart, sex organs, and other vital organs in early fetal development. (B) A high quality computer generated rendering or animation showing the process of fertilization and each stage of fetal development inside the uterus, noting significant markers in cell growth and organ development for every week of pregnancy from fertilization to birth.”

We will also be adding a focus point on consent to the instruction as well.
