Who We Are

Nothing is greater than the joy of leaving a legacy. Your generosity helps sustain the vital mission of lifting barriers to teachers and students in the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation.  The Southwest Dubois Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) formed in December 2024. This public charity is led by a group of school and community leaders interested in encouraging excellence in the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation.

What We Do

We support programs that stimulate excellence in and enhance the quality of education for the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation. This includes but is not limited to the following:

1. Scholarships for Students

Scholarships are available due to the generosity of our community donors to graduating seniors each spring. Scholarship applications will open in January. Check back for more details.

Verla Flick Scholarship

From 1954 to 1991, Ms. Verla Flick dedicated her career to teaching business at Southridge High School, remembered for her professionalism, high standards, and genuine care for students. She went above and beyond to support those in need, empowering all students to reach their potential. To continue her legacy, Ms. Flick established the Verla Flick Scholarship Fund to assist students pursuing degrees in education who demonstrate financial need. This award reflects her lifelong commitment to learning and her desire to inspire and support future educators.

Thomas and Virginia Schnellenberger Scholarship: $500

Thomas and Virginia Schnellenberger devoted their lives to serving the greater Southwest Dubois County community through leadership, faith, and countless acts of service. From civic organizations and church leadership to volunteer work and community events, they exemplified a lifelong commitment to helping others. This scholarship honors their legacy by recognizing a Southridge High School senior who demonstrates these same values—community awareness, service, leadership, and a dedication to the betterment of others.

2. Innovation Grants

The purpose is to fund projects that are outside the school’s annual budget; which will allow staff to go the extra mile for our students.
