SOUTHRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL

May 17, 2019

 

Seniors who have committed to serve in the Armed Forces after high school are going to be recognized at the senior awards program. If you have enlisted in the military, please email or visit Mrs. Trayweek in the front office or Mrs. Bromm in Student Services to let them know which branch you have enlisted in. We want to recognize anyone who has enlisted full-time, reserves, ROTC, etc. Please see Mrs. Trayweek or Mrs. Bromm by the end of the day on Monday and let them know.

 

Sign ups for summer school can be found in student services.   Summer I dates are June 3 - 28 from 8 - 10 or 10 - noon.   Summer II dates are July 8 - August 2 with the same times as Summer I.  (5/20)

 

 

Upcoming College Representative Visits:

Students MUST sign up in the Guidance Office no later than 2 days before the visit.  Students are limited to 3 representative visits.

 

 

 

Job Opportunities:

 

The Waters of Huntingburg is looking for 3-4 people to help out this summer and after school in the kitchen.  If interested call Krista 812-556-9196.

 

SHS is looking for part-time summer student workers in the custodial/maintenance department.  If you are 16 or over and have an interest in a summer job, please contact Brian Blackgrove at blackgroveb@swdubois.k12.in.us

 

 

CLUBS AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

 

Friends of Rachel is collecting donations for the club, and half of all donations will be donated to the Humane Society. A participation prize, an all sports pass for the school year of 2019-2020, will be randomly given to a student who makes a generous donation to the cause. In order to be eligible for the participation prize, one must donate a minimum of $2. However, all donations are happily accepted.

 

 

 

ATHLETICS:

 

The Raider Boys Track and Field Team finished second last night at the Japser Sectional and are moving on 9 different individuals to the Regional. Dylan Bland in the 1600m, Brad Springer in the 300m Hurdles. Noah Goeppner and Garret Voegerl in High Jump, Jaden Hayes in Discus, Garrett Altmeyer in Shot Put, and the 4x8 team of Dylan Bland, Jaffet Cruz, Cam Giles, and Ricky Pflanz. 

Jaden Hayes and Garrett Voegerl were Sectional Champions in Discus and High Jump. Jaden broke the school and sectional record with a throw if 174'11". The 4x8 team broke the school record with a time 8:40.07.

The Raider Softball (14-7) team finished up regular season play with a 15-0 win over Shoals Thursday night.

Myah Montgomery earned the win and her and Briley King combined to strike out 11 in the five innings.

The Raiders knocked out 16 hits on the evening highlighted by Mikah Goeppner’s first career home run.  Amanda Brewer, Kennedy Nalley, Peyton Nalley and Kolby Jones all had extra base hits while Rachel Trent also had three hits and two RBI’s.

The Raiders begin sectional play Monday at Linton vs Mitchell scheduled for a 7:30 start. 

 

On Wednesday night, the girls tennis team had some good news and bad news at sectional.  As a team, we lost to Pike Central 4-1 so our season as a team is over.  But since our 1st doubles team of Audra Hochgesang & Jordan Biehl won, they will advance to the next round of "individual sectional" next week.  Evie Sherer lost 3-6; 2-6 in #1 singles, Olivia Durcholz lost 1-6; 1-6 in #2 singles; Elizabeth Fleck lost 1-6; 2-6 in #3 singles, Audra Hochgesang & Jordan Biehl won 4-6; 6-3; 6-2 in #1 doubles and Gabbie Werner & Kelby LaRoche lost 4-6; 0-6 in #2 doubles.  Stay tuned for details on when Audra & Jordan will play next!

 

The second annual Track Banquet will be held on Tuesday, May 28 at the Southridge High School Cafeteria.    Doors will open at 5:30pm and the meal will be served at 6:00pm. The awards ceremony will follow.  Athletes are free of charge, but must register with Mrs. Altmeyer by Wednesday, May 22 to attend to ensure an accurate meal count.

Parents, family and friends are encourgage to attend, tickets may be purchased at the school from Mrs. Altmeyer. Booster members may purchase tickets for $8.00 each. Non-booster members may purchase tickets for $15.00 each.   All tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, May 22, 2019. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door.
